Resigning is more than just a simple I quit

Resigning is more than just a simple I quit. There are still a few key parts you have to make sure to follow:

Timing – make sure to give your boss/ manager enough notice. It’s traditionally 2 weeks, but consult your boss in case he or she wants or expects more time

Negotiating: make sure that you talk to your boss about getting a fair return on any outstanding salary or any other compensation that is owed to you.

Hiring: you may want to offer to help your boss with training of other employees

Working: make sure that you do your best to actually come to work as you did in the past. Even though you are leaving, you should do as if you were not.

Completing: make sure you complete any assignments or tasks that you have to fill. Leave a detailed report of progress for your coworkers and supervisor

Leaving: before you walk out of that door make sure you have all of the contact information you need and / or want. Remember to again thank them before you leave.

On another note, some industries will require you to leave on the spot. Be prepared for this.
Don’t feel guilty, your coworkers and even your boss may make you feel a little guilty for leaving the team, don’t let this get to you.

Example:

Dear X manager/ boss

Please accept this letter of resignation to be effective at a date to be mutually determined, but no later than x date that you need to be out by.

I am resigning my position because I have decided to purse x career. This resignation is the proper thing for me to do. I have benefited greatly from my stay here and I appreciate how you always held yourself in a professional manner.

Sincerely,

Your name

What job is for you

Most adults spend at the very least, 1/3 of their entire lives at work. It’s important then to find a job that you find interesting and fulfilling. So your first task, even before you begin your job search is to zero in on your natural abilities and interests because people enjoy doing what they are interested in and what they naturally do well in.

Sometime in the near future, take out some paper and a pen or pencil and do some hard, completely honest thinking about your school experiences. What classes did you enjoy most or find most fulfilling? What classes did you enjoy least? What activities did you enjoy most? Which activities did you really enjoy least. After you have written down your likes and dislikes, think about the time you were complimented for something you have done.

After a while, you will probably have a pretty good list. It will be one that indicates the kinds of things you like and dislike. The items on the list will also show what kind of personality you have. It will show whether you like working alone or with others. Your personality type should play a big role in the kind of work that you pursue. When your personality matches your job duties, your chances of success both psychologically and financially increase extremely.

Or what if you’re someone who does not quite have a handle on the things you like or don’t like to do? Or cannot seem to pin down your personality type? Some people just find this to be very hard to do. Well, the good news is that there are lots of people who can help you out. There are vocational counselors out there who are trained to help job seekers figure out what is best suited for them. There are also state employment counselors who do the same thing. Also look into the occupational outlook handbook its published by the federal government and gives a lot of great information about the kinds of jobs available now and in the future.

Trouble at your place of employment

You are working full time and headed for a career. You have found a place that you think you will like. You have at least some of the skills you need to succeed on the job. So far, so good. But it pays to know that something like 3 out of 4 first time employees who get fired are let go for reasons that have nothing to do with their actual job skills.

They get fired because of problems in the workplace that they aren’t prepared for. Maybe they didn’t get the raise they thought they deserved. Or maybe a coworker was giving them some serious problems. Or maybe they felt that the boss just wasn’t being fair, it happens. No one tells you how to solve these problems. The fact is that there is a good chance that sooner or later there will be a conflict in your workplace that could blow up into serious trouble if you do not know how to handle it.

Dealing with people who don’t pull their own weight in the workplace is a situation you will find in the workplace all of your life. Knowing what to do when you are faced in a situation like that is critical if you want to become successful. Sometimes there is a conflict in the workplace about what you think is appropriate and what someone else thinks. When that someone else is your boss, you could have a problem. One of the most difficult times at work is when you don’t get that raise or that promotion you think you earned. How you handle such a situation can be an indicator of how successful you will be on the job. There is always trouble in the workplace, you will just have to deal with it one way or another, and sometimes resignation really is the only option.

Writing a resume is a rather simple process

Writing a resume is a rather simple process, but many people endure lots of stress while completing the process. We should eliminate this stress, and form some simple rules as to how to write it. But what exactly is a resume? A resume is a letter to a targeted reader. Its purpose is to facilitate a conversation and serve as a basis for someone to remember you and follow-up later. Its also used for the interviewer to take notes, its not an end to itself so do not take it that way. There are some rules

  1. There is no preface résumé, you will have to spend some quality time on constructing and updating but it’s the perfect job you are looking for so getting the basics down will be just fine
  2. You can have more than one resume, the job opportunities you will look at will vary so be flexible and be ready to tail your resume to fit any given situation
  3. Have an objective , start your resume with an objective your chance to tell the reader what you want. You may have multiple objectives but the more specific you get the better the reader will know what you want and remember you
  4. State what you did, employers are looking for people who can do things, it is essential to state what you did at your previous job or internship. It’s a good idea to use action verbs
  5. Do research, have a good idea about who you are giving the resume to, do not let them think you are wasting their time
  6. Stay relevant, keep the resume focused on relevant information, there is no need to include things that doesn’t pertain to the objective, stay away from things like marital status, religion, politics, and physical descriptions
  7. Be specific, you want the reader to focus on things that matter regarding your ability to perform the job and accomplish the objective
  8. Be organized and to the point, it’s a business letter so use care as well as good sentence structure and correct English.
  9. Don’t be a job hopper, employers like people who have a logical career progression, if you have several job changes be sure you display good reasoning for those changes
  10. Be yourself after all of this its important for you to express who you are, the purpose of the resume is to facilitate an interview, that’s all

You are now off to a good star

How to get along with your supervisor

Every boss is different; no two of them supervise in exactly the same way. Even more, they may act differently on different days even at different times of the day. You might think of your boss as the direct link between your company and you. In all likelihood he or she is the person that will have a big say in whether you get raises or promotions or whether you will be fired. He will evaluate your performance and is in reality the most important person with whom you have contact with in your daily job.

Chances are if you see your boss in a positive light, he or she will also see you in a positive light. You will therefore want to establish a good working relationship with your supervisor as quickly as possible. Make no mistake about it, first impressions are extremely important. You don’t want to get off on the wrong foot. A recent nationwide poll of human resource directors and other executives revealed that lying is the trait that is found least tolerable. If you think about it, it makes sense, if a person lies he or she is not dependable and supervisors must have dependable people working for them.

One reason and many new employees don’t realize this, is that the hire ups in the company evaluate supervisors, at least in part, on how well their people perform, So if you don’t do well, and if you are not dependable you could make your supervisor look bad. After all, the supervisor is in charge and if anything goes wrong it’s on his shoulder. So if you make a mistake admit it. No one expects you to be perfect, and in fact it’s expected that you will make some mistakes as a first time employee.
Tips on starting off right with your supervisor:

  1. Never lie,
  2. Admit your mistakes don’t try to cover them up or make excuses,
  3. Don’t assume anything don’t rush off and do something, and don’t assume that the way you did something in your previous job is the way you should do something now
  4. Ask question when you are unsure of procedures and policies.

How to write a Resignation Letter

Of course before you write the resignation letter, you will want to talk to the employer about any problems you are having with your company to see if you can work it out. If you already know that you simply need to leave you should still talk to your employer. You are probably also going to talk with your employer about resigning. The letter will be the formal letter of termination from the company.

First off, formally address the resignation letter as you would any other letter, to the employer with the date and your mane so that everything will be formal and can be put on file. Tell them kindly in the letter that you appreciated the time that you have spent with them but you must move on. Also in the resignation letter, it is not really necessary to go into details about why you are resigning, like I hate this job and I hate my coworkers. Obviously, this will not go well with your company employer. More importantly it may harm you in the future!

So all you really need to do is say that this is my formal resignation and give them the date that it will be effective. Remember to give them the exact date by which you will have moved out and will formally be resigned from the company. You are basically in charge for when you want to quit, but this does not mean that you have the authority to dictate the things to them. So give them your preferred resignation ate, and hopefully you will have already talked to your employer about it, so it should be pretty clear. It may seem complicated or challenging at first, but writing a resignation letter is really quite simple. So go on and write it, and good luck with your future endeavors.

Advise on resignation letters

So you think that it’s probably the end of your career at your current hog, and you want to resign with dignity. The first thing is to take a big breath and relax, if its time to move on, then its time to move on. It’s a simple discussion with your boss, make certain that you have something to move on to. If not, then do you have any money in savings? Do you have a cushion? Are you ready for this movement?

If you just don’t think you can stay where you are anymore, well than go ahead and have a talk with your boss, and let him know that its time for you to move on, and give him the proper notice. Make sure that you are respectful during the conversation. Give him a letter if he requests it. Keep the letter short though, there is no need to go into a lot of detail, all you are going to do is burn bridges when you do this.

Give the appropriate notice, sometimes 2 weeks, sometimes 4 weeks, and sometimes 6 months if you have a contract. If you do have a contract, read it through to make sure that you are giving the appropriate notice. As I mentioned, do not burn any bridges, there is no reason to say anything hurtful or hateful. This will not get you anywhere, it’s an emotional venting but in the long run it won’t get you anywhere. Say thanks for the opportunity, it may not be the right opportunity right now, but tell them thanks for giving you the opportunity, and its just time for you to move on. Some other things you might want to do is call human resources for a exist interview if you have a message you want to say. Other than that, good luck with your next opportunity.
